Trend Analysis & Apparel Concepts: Spring/Summer 2013 Trend Report

"Fashion, a simple word with a simple meaning, right? What truly is considered 'fashion'? When you go through the archives and revisit the evolution of fashion, you can see that it is much more than trendy clothes worn by the elite and trendy folk. Fashion is a visual diary of society. Politics, the environment, social movements — they all reflect and mold what people wear. They’ve brought us to where we are today. When you compare past to present, you come across a reoccurring theme: the past always makes its way into the present. Sure, designers get their inspirations from ‘island paradises’ and various style tribes they may see on the street. But season after season, current designs, designers from the past, artists, scientists, political and social leaders — they influence what we see on the runways today. This season, designers dabbled into decades from the 1800s to the 1990s. They were not only inspired by things from back then, but things that are happening now. With the current economic state and the shift in consumer demand, designers new and old put forth their take on what fashion is today. Flip through for a sneak peak."
